+++ Jeremias Schwarzer is featured guest in opera world premiere at the Ruhrtriennale +++
The opera Leila and Madschun will make its world premiere as part of the Ruhrtriennale on August 20th. The musikFabrik Köln is set to play under the direction of Peter Rundel, and recorder-player Jeremias Schwarzer will be a featured soloist. Additional performances are to take place between the opera's premiere and September 3rd.
Samir Odeh-Tamimi's newest opera is set to open this year's Ruhrtriennale. The opera fits in nicely with both the Ruhrtriennale's general theme - the search for the origin of art and spirituality - as well as the particular theme of this year's festival, Islam. The story of Leila and Madschun, taken from the 12th century epic poem by the Persian poet Nizami, tells of a deeply spiritual love. The longing between the two lovers, who were violently separated from one another as children, grows throughout the epic tale until nearing divinity.
Samir Odeh-Tamimi's opera is based on the work Madjnun, written in 2009 for Jeremias Schwarzer. This production once again features the flutist in an important role. Commissioned by the Ruhrtriennale and supported by the Kunststiftung NRW, the opera will make its world premiere on 20 August under the direction of Peter Rundel.
World premiere: 20.8.2010, 21:00
Additional Performances: 22, 24, 26, 28, 30.8.2010 and 3.9.2010, all performances 21:00
